Alex Bulk's research aims to evaluate energy-efficient and commercial building-management technologies for federal building integration and utility incentives/rebate measure programs. His technology areas are focused in HVAC, EV charging infrastructure, building control systems, refrigeration, and motor/drive system technologies. His role is primarily focused in experimentation project management, especially in off-site field evaluations. Bulk has also made contributions toward research in other areas including materials characterization for thermal energy storage and humidity regulation. Bulk's work has received attention for advancing new energy-efficient commercial refrigeration and motor/drive system technologies. Bulk joined NREL in 2019 after working in trace explosives detection research at the NIST, where he worked to design aerodynamic sampling systems to collect and detect explosives.
