Avtar Singh’s research focuses on enhancing the safety and abuse tolerance of next-generation battery materials—including lithium-ion, sodium-ion, potassium-ion, and solid-state batteries—by characterizing their microstructure and material properties. Additionally, he develops physics-based aging models to forecast battery lifetime during fast charging, as well as chemo-mechanics failure models to optimize microstructure to reduce stress generation during insertion/extraction of ions.
