Clara Houghteling is a social science researcher working on the social and cultural dynamics of clean energy development, especially in the context of wind energy deployment. Coming from a background in sociology and history, she has experience with both quantitative and qualitative methods and analysis frameworks for considering social vulnerability and energy system impacts. Many of her projects focus on energy justice and energy equity initiatives, including direct engagement with frontline communities and support for Tribal Nations. Before joining NREL, she worked at the U.S. Supreme Court and completed a master’s degree in resilience and sustainability at the University of Colorado Boulder.
