Dheemahi Rao’s research focuses on reducing the cost of III-V solar cells by using high-throughput deposition technique—hydride vapor phase epitaxy (HVPE). A key focus of her work is substrate reuse—developing efficient spalling methods to separate devices from their substrates and enabling subsequent regrowth on the same substrates without compromising device performance. In parallel, she works on optimizing the HVPE growth process to achieve high-quality III-V materials with low defect concentrations, ensuring both efficiency and scalability for next-generation photovoltaic technologies.
