Eric Holmes’s research focuses on upgrading biomass and waste-derived carbon resources into valuable chemicals and bio-derived products. His work leverages genomic, transcriptomic, and metabolic datasets to make foundational discoveries in microbial chemical and energy metabolism, which are subsequently applied using advanced synthetic biology tools to build microbes for sustainable food, polymer, and chemical applications.
