Jibonananda “Jibo” Sanyal leads a select group of applied researchers to provide their vision and leadership aligned with the mission and vision of the organization and our science goals. He brings a unique blend of data and computing expertise, and applied R&D and business development experience, with a commitment to diversity to drive NREL’s research and innovation in energy, sustainability, and resiliency. The Hybrid Energy Systems group focuses on the development and demonstration of different combinations of renewable energy generation sources, energy storage at various timescales, and end use applications in mobility, electric grid, and building. A key component of the R&D is developing deep competence in the scaling up of energy technologies to 10s of MWs, wide geographic areas, and at high spatio-temporal fidelity, and across a breadth of physical facilities and emulation infrastructure to de-risk these technologies for real-world deployments.
