John Jasa is a senior researcher in the Wind Hybrid Systems group at NREL. His work involves systems engineering, computational modeling, and tool development to optimize how to create and operate next-generation hybrid energy systems. Jasa works on projects that investigate using renewables to efficiently produce electricity, hydrogen, steel, and usable iron. He previously worked at NREL in the Offshore Wind group developing and applying systems engineering tools (WISDEM, WEIS) to optimize wind turbine designs. Prior to joining NREL, he worked at NASA as a multidisciplinary design engineer focused on hybrid aircraft optimization and open-source tool development. Jasa is particularly interested in the intersection of energy justice and systems engineering to help create a more equitable and green future.
