Matthew Emes joined NREL as a researcher in 2024. His work focuses on aerodynamic wind loads on heliostat collectors in concentrating solar power fields using in-situ observations of turbulent wind and structural load measurements. His expertise lies in design and analysis of wind tunnel and field measurements of atmospheric boundary layer wind profiles and turbulence characteristics. Before joining NREL, Emes studied turbulence characteristics in the atmospheric boundary layer in wind tunnel experiments, with a focus on interactions between turbulence intensities, spectra and length scales with aerodynamic loads.
