Matt Shields joined NREL in 2018 and leads the lab's work on offshore wind techno-economic analysis, which involves developing cost models, analyzing market and technology trends, and projecting the future costs of offshore wind. He has conducted analysis on the cost impacts of turbine and plant upsizing, supply chain opportunities for the domestic offshore wind industry, floating wind marine logistics, and the feasibility assessments for novel technological solutions.
