Michael’s research focus is the development and application of high-fidelity computational fluid dynamics to the field of offshore wind energy. His research seeks to provide understanding and prediction of the loading experienced by floating wind turbine installations, capturing the interactions between wind, waves, and solid structures. His code development at NREL has targeted the open-source large-eddy simulation software AMR-Wind. Prior to NREL, Michael studied transonic atomization in his graduate work, developing novel numerical approaches for compressible multiphase flows.
