Minjung Lee's research at NREL focuses on two key areas. One is to develop pretreatment processes using bio-based solvents to recycle plastic bottles and textiles. These processes target the removal of impurities such as dyes, metals, and foreign polymers. The other is to design carbon-conscious polymeric systems using poly(hydroxy)urethane foams. These systems can effectively encapsulate and shape-stabilize phase change materials for thermal energy storage applications in buildings and electric vehicles.
