Ryan J. Tancin joined NREL's Materials Science Center in June 2022 as a postdoctoral researcher in Phillip Parilla’s research group. Ryan first earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering before pursuing master's and doctorate degrees in aeronautics and astronautics in Christopher Goldenstein’s research group. His doctorate focused on developing laser-based diagnostics for studying high-temperature gas dynamics and chemistry, with substantial experience in developing and constructing high-pressure fluid systems for experimental studies of propulsions and gas-phase chemistry. At NREL, he has taken on multiple projects aimed at advancing lithium (Li)-ion battery technology through ultrafast-laser processing of battery materials and developing methods for readying these methods for high-throughput industrial manufacturing. In this new position, he has gained new expertise in electrochemistry, Li-ion battery technology, and solid-state electrolytes.
