Personal Profile

Sahand Sabet is a researcher in the Water Power group. He earned his doctoral degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Arizona in 2021. His Ph.D. research was focused on developing an analytical framework for modeling, control, and path planning of hybrid aerial/terrestrial robots. In addition, he has experience in entrepreneurship and technology innovation. He received the student innovator of the year award from the University of Arizona’s Tech Launch for developing a hybrid robot for inspection. Before joining NREL in 2022, he worked on modeling hybrid robots and satellite control at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. At NREL, his work focuses on modeling rigid/flexible multibody Wave Energy Converters. In addition, he works on modeling and design optimization of floating offshore wind platforms. Currently, his main project is focused on developing an open-source multibody dynamics tool that generates the analytical equations of motion and provides time domain and frequency domain modeling capabilities.
