Abstract
In this paper we discuss the performance of phase-change materials (PCMs) as thermal storage in passive solar heating systems. We discuss factors, other than material properties, that affect storage performance and optimization. We also briefly describe solid-state phase-change materials (SS PCMs) and list typical material properties. We give results from a parametric analysis of PCM Trombewalls, and discuss the factors that limit performance. We present configurations for enhanced PCM performance, and give simulation results for an idealized case.
