Abstract
The advantages of using piezoelectric effects for improving the photoconversion efficiencies were discussed. Semiconductor quantum wells and quantum dots were used to improve the efficiency. The effects on the solar cell design were also studied. Photogenerated carriers were found to be effectively extracted and carrier capture was prevented by using the piezoelectric fields.
