Air Pollutant Emissions from Large-Scale Bioenergy Feedstock Production in 2022 in Relation to National Emissions Inventory

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperpeer-review

Abstract

A spatially-, temporally (with temporal signal assigned to each emission)- and chemically-explicit air pollutant emission inventory was developed to monetize the potential health effects from the life cycle of biofuel produced to meet the mandates in the year 2022 of the updated Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS2). This inventory included seven pollutants emitted from activities to produce RFS2-scale volumes of four cellulosic feedstocks in 2022 (CO, NOx, SOx, PM10 and PM2.5, VOC, and NH3. The results of this study can help identify locations where cellulosic feedstock production could lead to additional air quality management challenges, and thus where emission reduction strategies could be efficiently targeted. This is an abstract of a paper presented at the 106th AWMA Annual Conference and Exhibition (Chicago, IL 6/25-28/2013).
