Assessment of Landfill Reclamation and the Effects of Age on the Combustion of Recovered Municipal Solid Waste

    Research output: NRELSubcontract Report

    Abstract

For the past three years the Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority has been mining waste buried at one of its landfills and delivering it to its resource recovery facility for processing. The project's goals are twofold: extend the life of the landfill by recovering valuable landfill space, and to increase energy production and efficiency at the RRF. By the time the project iscompleted, approximately 530,000 cubic yards of space will be reclaimed. The report summarizes Lancaster's reclamation experience to date and makes comparison where applicable with other reclamation projects.
