Abstract

Simple thermodynamic arguments are used to investigate the oxidation of CuInSe2 and the possible chemical reactions at the CdSCuInSe2 interface. Reaction products are predicted for the oxidation of CuInSe2 and the oxidation of CdS and for reactions between CdS and CuInSe2, as well as between CdS and the CuInSe2 native oxide. It is suggested that the oxidation of CdS is possibly associated with the partial improvement in the response of CdSCuInSe2 solar cells with annealing treatments in an oxygen ambient.
