Chapter 4: Vibrational Spectroscopy for Batteries

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Dr. Sang-Don Han and Dr. Bertrand Tremolet de Villers describe infrared (IR) and Raman spectroscopy studies. Not only are the fundamental principles and measurement methods or FTIR and Raman presented, but also in situ spectroscopic analysis during battery cycling. The advantage of the in situ method is the additional insight into the chemical, thermal, and electrical mechanisms underlying the battery performance that are largely inaccessible with traditional ex situ measurements. The future perspectives on the continuing evolution of IR spectroscopy in electrochemical energy storage research are also presented.
