Abstract

The solar photovoltaic (PV) installation industry has foundations in other related skilled trades such as electrical contracting, construction, and roofing. We use a novel dataset to explore these inter-industry ties. We find evidence that many installers continue to offer other related services. We also find evidence that the PV installation industry is converging with other industries over time. Policymakers could support nascent PV industries through measures to leverage these inter-industry ties.
