Abstract
This report describes work performed during the first year of a three-phase, 3-year, cost-shared subcontract with NREL entitled 'CIS Photovoltaic Technology.' The subcontract is one component of the NREL Thin-Film PV Partnership Program. Remarkably high efficiencies (15%-17.6%) have been demonstrated for small-area Cu(In,Ga)Se2 devices in the United States, Europe, and Japan. A major objective ofthis program is to demonstrate the preparation of high-quality CIGS material over large areas (0.43 m2) using novel equipment and processes that are adaptable to high-throughput manufacturing. Using this material, prototype CIGS PV modules will be produced. Research results generated by other components of the Thin-Film PV Partnership Program will be incorporated as required.
