Comparative Ranking of Thermal Storage Systems, Volume II: Cost and Performance of Thermal Storage Concepts in Solar Thermal Systems, Phase I

    Research output: NRELTechnical Report

    Abstract

Cost and performance of various thermal storage concepts in various solar thermal systems are presented in this report. The solar thermal systems studied include the following: 1) Water/steam receiver for a 100 MWe reheat power plant, 2) Organic Fluid Receiver for a 400 kWe Total Energy System, 3) 150 Mwe Closed Air Brayton Cycle, and 4) Process Heat Applications using Water/Steam and OrganicFluid Receiver. Concept screening data, conceptual design data and concept costs are presented for storage capacities ranging from 1 to 15 hours for each of the thermal storage concepts studied.
