Abstract
This brief paper discusses factors that must be considered when defining the 'normal' (as opposed to 'extreme') loading conditions seen in wind turbines operating within a wind park environment. We define the 'normal' conditions to include fatigue damage accumulation as a result of: start/stop cycles; emergency shutdowns; and the turbulence environment associated with site and turbine location. We also interpret 'extreme' loading conditions to include those events that can challenge the survivability of the turbine.
