Abstract

The cost of the balance of plant (BOP) has risen in importance with decreasing fuel cell stack cost. Lowering the cost of PEMFC system components require the understanding of the materials used in the system components and the contaminants that derive from them, which have been shown to affect the performance and durability of fuel cells. We here present the evaluation of influence of the leachants, from the materials used in the system components, on the electrochemical performance of Pt catalyst. This is a quick and cost-effective screening tool to evaluate the effect of BOP component materials on the catalyst.
