Abstract
Making good design decisions early in the design process ensures energy cost savings throughout the life of a building. Such decisions balance requirements for comfortable levels of lighting, heating, cooling, and views while minimizing the amount of energy needed to meet these requirements. However, achieving the right combination of design schemes is a challenge because of the uniqueness of available solutions to every building design. A close look at collaborative design team, flexible computer model, and systematic approach to evaluating design strategies is the key to considering the many options without impacting the overall construction costs.
