    Abstract

    Energy use in the commercial sector increased at a rapid 4.7 percent average annual rate between 1960 and 1978. This rate of growth exceeded those of all other sectors. Consequently the share of total U.S. energy used in commercial buildings increased from 10.2 percent in 1965 to 13.7 percent in 1978.
