Abstract
GaAs nanocrystals were prepared in quinoline according to procedures previously published in the literature. However, we find that the optical absorption and photoluminescence properties of GaAs colloids that we prepared in quinoline are dominated by molecular species that mask the optical properties of the GaAs nanocrystals. These species appear to be present both in solution and on the surface of the GaAs nanocrystals; they have not been identified but are believed to consist of quinoline oligomers and/or Ga-quinoline complexes.
