Abstract
District energy systems supplied by geothermal heat pumps (GHPs) have been deployed across the United States for both heating and cooling end uses. In this article, 4th and 5th generations GHP-based district energy systems in the United States were reviewed. Two model tools developed at NREL for geothermal district energy network was also introduced. Lastly, the future of geothermal district energy systems were discussed.
