Abstract
Under a 2-year cooperative agreement with NREL, Crystal Systems, Inc. (CSI), of Salem, Massachusetts, is working to perfect a highly promising new technology that should reduce the cost and improve the quality of solar cell materials. This brief explains how CSI's new crystal growth process (called the heat exchanger method) works, and what happened when the small company turned to NREL, with itsarray of sophisticated characterization tools and techniques for photovoltaic materials, for help.
