Impacts of Renewable and Storage Technologies on Resource Adequacy

Research output: NRELPresentation

Abstract

This presentation kicked off the 2020 Austin Electricity Conference, Panel 1: Impacts of Low-Carbon Technologies on Resource Adequacy. This short presentation provided a brief introduction to resource adequacy and then highlighted a few illustrative examples for how increasing penetrations of variable renewable energy and storage is changing how we think about and model resources adequacy. Key themes were how all hours of the year matter (with particular importance on peak net load instead of peak load) and how greater operational detail needs to be included in resource adequacy modeling.
