Abstract
Deployment of increasing amounts of renewable energy (RE) presents certain challenges in reliably integrating larger quantities RE into existing bulk power system infrastructures. RE Bulk power typically refers to large-scale power generation at a centralized facility and in the context of RE can include wind farms, utility-scale solar, geothermal, hydro and biomass facilities. Based on international experiences, several actions and related good practices have emerged to support the deployment of RE in the bulk power system. This paper provides a review of emerging international best practices that support the integration of large-scale RE; examples of country-level efforts in implementing these practices; and key considerations for any country pursuing bulk power sector transformation.
