Abstract

A cooperative renewable energy project is underway between the U.S. Department of Energy and the Federal Republic of Brazil. The objectives of the joint U.S./Brazilian program are to establish technical, institutional, and economic confidence in using renewable energy systems to meet the needs of the people of rural Brazil, to build ongoing partnership beneficial to both countries, and to demonstrate the potential for large-scale rural electrification through the use of renewable energy systems.
