Measure Guideline: Air Sealing Mechanical Closets in Slab-On-Grade Homes

Bruce Dickson

Research output: NRELSubcontract Report

Abstract

This measure guideline describes covers two fundamental retrofit strategies for air sealing around air handling systems that are located within the living space in an enclosed closet: one in which all of the equipment is removed and being replaced, and a closet where the equipment is to remain and existing conditions are sealed. It includes the design and installation details necessary toeffectively seal the air handler closet and central return system to maximize the efficiency and safety of the space conditioning system.
