Modeling for Anaerobic Fixed-Bed Biofilm Reactors

The specific objectives of this research were: 1. to develop an equilibrium model for chemical aspects of anaerobic reactors; 2. to modify the equilibrium model for non-equilibrium conditions; 3. to incorporate the existing biofilm models into the models above to study the biological and chemical behavior of the fixed-film anaerobic reactors; 4. to experimentally verify the validity of thesemodels; 5. to investigate the biomass-holding ability of difference packing materials for establishing reactor design criteria.
