Operational Analysis of the Eastern Interconnection at Very High Renewable Penetrations

Gregory Brinkman, Joshua Novacheck

Research output: NRELTechnical Report

Abstract

This report presents analysis of detailed modeling of the operation of North America's Eastern Interconnection at very high levels of wind and solar penetration (approximately 70% of annual energy). The operational modeling used five-minute time resolution, and the analysis is focused on system balancing, curtailment, penetration of wind and solar, and other system metrics.
