Abstract

Nitrates are photoelectrochemically reduced at the p-GaInP2 electrode in nitrate-bearing solutions. The rate-determining step of the nitrate reduction process is significantly promoted by band gap illumination, resulting in over 80% Faradaic efficiency. IPCE at -1 V exceeds 60% at wavelengths of light below 580 nm.
