Abstract
Large-area, defect-free semiconductor materials are a requirement not only for most flat panel display applications, but also for photovoltaic (PV) solar cells. Over the past 15 years, Federal and private sources have invested nearly $2 billion in the technology. In this paper we examine some of the developments in PV that appear to be of benefit to flat panel display researchers. Specificdevelopments in polycrystalline as well as hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) and related alloys are discussed.
