Abstract

Many members of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry are taking a strong leadership role in sustainability. To complement efficiency efforts, companies are now incorporating previously unprecedented amounts of renewable energy into their data center energy use using a wide variety of creative methods, depending on the company energy profile, corporate strategy, geography and resources of available sites, public policy, and other factors. This presentation, based on interviews with companies and analysis of publically available data, covers success stories, challenges still facing the industry, and a synthesis of the past and potential future impact on renewable energy overall of making renewables a key part of corporate strategies.
