Abstract
FY 1996 was a year of accomplishment for the U.S. Department of Energy's Solar Thermal Electric Program (STEP), a year that witnesses the inauguration of Solar Two, the nation's newest power tower plant. Also included in this fact sheet is a listing of several advanced STEP research projects, such as the conceptual design for a hybrid power tower that runs on solar energy and natural gas,allowing continuous operation throughout the day and night.
