Abstract
The prospects of renewable electricity that can significantly contribute to satisfy the growing demand for electricity in the US are discussed. The growing interest in renewable electricity in the country is influenced by the volatility of natural gas prices and their effect on the cost of electricity. The country has plenty of renewable resources that can play an important role in meeting the potential demand for electricity. The country has enough solar and wind resources in several states and concentrated in hilly areas, coastal regions, and Great Plains to meet twice the country's total demand for electricity. Renewable electricity can make critical contributions to the prospective energy needs of the country if the latest technologies, the markets, and policies necessary to increase their acceptance and use are brought together.
