Abstract

Significantly converging trends will enhance the penetration rate of renewable energy in the world market. It is a fact that renewables have moved past the experimental stage and are becoming serious market contenders. The level of maturity of four renewable energy technologies is discussed and the emerging application of these technologies to rural and remote sites in the form of hybrid systemsis presented.
