Abstract
Most products derived from petroleum and natural gas can be produced directly from biomass. The 'biomass' with which this report is concerned includes aquatic plants, which can be converted into liquid fuels; organic wastes (crop residues as well as animal and municipal wastes), from which biogas can be produced via anaerobic digestion; and organic or inorganic waste streams, from which hydrogencan be produced by photobiological processes.
