Solar Two: Utility-Scale Power from the Sun (Brochure)

    Research output: NRELMarketing

    Abstract

Solar Two, a prototype solar-powered electric generating plant east of Barstow, California, is demonstrating that clean solar energy is a reliable and economic way to produce large quantities of power. Sponsored by DOE in partnership with a consortium of utilities and private corporations, Solar Two features an innovative energy collection and storage system that uses molten nitrate salt -- asubstance that has excellent heat-retention qualities -- as the heat-transfer medium.
