Abstract
The Solar Energy Research Institute (SERI), Electric Power Research Institute, Florida Solar Energy Center, and Pacific Gas and Electric Company cooperated to produce a spectral solar radiation data base representing a range of atmospheric conditions. These data will help to characterize the natural variability in the spectral (color) content of outdoor solar radiation so that the sensitivity ofspectrally selective solar devices (such as photovoltaics) to these variations can be studied quantitatively. Volume I of this report documents the history, approach, content and format of the data base; Volume II contains graphs and field notes for each of the spectral data sets. The data reside on magnetic tape at SERI.
