Strategies on How to Manage Battery Heat Under Fast Charge Conditions

Abstract

Improvements to battery design often focus on the energy density of the active material and/or utilization of the available active material. Optimizing thermal management design at the cell-level and/or the pack level is key to accomplishing mission-relevant battery design. Measurement of heat signatures at each level helps inform manufacturing at the design, production, and characterization phases. Understanding thermal limitations allows end users to make well-informed decisions on design of durable and safe battery packs.
