Wind Energy Systems Sub-Synchronous Oscillations: Events and Modeling: IEEE Power & Energy Society Technical Report, PES-TR80

Research output: NRELTechnical Report

Abstract

This report is the result of a two year long IEEE Taskforce bringing together experts from industry and academia to examine the technical challenges of renewable wind power plants exposed to series capacitor compensation or low short circuit ratio (SCR) resulting in subsynchronous oscillations (SSO). A brief overview of historical events is presented, followed by a deep examination of the mechanisms causing the oscillations, and after that, study methods, mitigation options, and finally proposals for future research are presented.
